Inf.: Mother comes one day and says: “We need food for 70 people” <…> And people started bringing their home preserves, canned meat and the like... We started just the two of us, my mother and myself, and then a woman working in one of the city restaurants joined in, saying “I can do cooking in my own kitchen at home’. Ok. Then two more people joined, who wanted to do something like making vareniki [curd dumplings]. They said: “We can’t take a gun and fight, but we know how to make vareniki.”

Int.: Do you think there were other crews like yours in other places?

Inf.: Certainly, quite a lot of them… People were trying to get organized, to help <…> Plus our local Jewish community also joined in – they said, they will send dish sets.

Int.: Only to the Jews?

Inf.: No, no, to everyone (UJRI_062_K).
