In the first couple of days [of the war] all these roadblocks were organized, in all entry and exit points around the city, and [people] were guarding them, and nobody fed them, nobody took care of them… they were just standing there hungry. <…> And I say: “Mum, maybe we can at least make sandwiches for them.” And then some women came, brought vareniki [curd dumplings] for them and things like that (UJRI_062_K)
