Celebrating the Publication of the Album The Museum of Jewish History in Russia
This album presents the collections of the Museum of Jewish History in Russia to a wide audience for the first time. The Museum, founded in Moscow in 2011, holds collections that may be divided conditionally into the two main groupings represented by the two volumes of the album.
The first volume presents the traditional culture of Russian Jewry: artefacts of Jewish folk art and artistic craftsmanship that served to decorate the interiors of synagogues and homes, household items used for holiday and everyday purposes, and also a variety of documents and materials pertaining to community institutions. The second volume includes exhibit items bearing witness to social and legal changes, economic transformations, cultural explorations, political experimentation, and other processes of modernization affecting Russian and Soviet Jews over the course of their history.
The album is in Russian and English.
